How to host a High Tea
theloft - 11th May, 2012
Mothers Day is just around the corner, and if you haven’t already made plans to pamper your Mum, hosting a High Tea in her honour might be just the ticket! An elegant affair with dainty cakes, fluffy scones, china cups and maybe a flute of champagne - not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

The Decorations
A High Tea is the best excuse to bring out the nice china that sits in the back of the cupboard and never sees the light of day! Or go all out with fun and quirky mismatched cups, plates and saucers! Tea pots and a tiered cake stand set a lovely mood and look beautiful. Also think about your table cloth and flowers as well, and suit them to your theme.

The Tea
We love T2’s incredible selection! From the delicate French Earl Grey to the very girly Strawberries and Cream, there’s definitely something to suit everyone. Serve loose leaf tea in cute tea pots with sugar cubes and milk on the side.

The Sandwiches
Cute finger sandwiches make the perfect nibble to start off your High Tea. Traditional fillings include smoked salmon, roast beef, and chicken. But feel free to get creative with crab,, lobster or turkey and brie. For something different you might even whip up a batch of blinis or mini quiches.
The Scones
Scones are an absolute must. Here’s a guide to getting perfectly baked scones every time. Homemade jam is a nice touch, but we also love Bonne Maman.

The Sweets
Hit up your favourite French patisserie for some sweet little macarons, or try making your own! These Strawberries and Cream Macarons couldn’t be cuter. Cupcakes, tartlets, and dainty little cookies are also beautiful served on a tiered cake stand.

The Dress
A High Tea is the perfect excuse to pull on your most ladylike dress. Think whimsical, pink, floral and lots of lace.
